Gallery | 1923 Gibson Style A Mandolin

Gibson Style "A" snakehead Mandoiln built in 1923 (Loar Period). Sheraton Brown finish. All hardware original. I think the frets are original but it needs refretting (all notes sound, but it's buzzy on first 5 frets due to wear). Professional repair of back damage (pops out in one of the flash photos - reddish color is due to flash). Small chunk taken out of front of headstock on bass side. Instrument has a number of small nicks and finish is chipped off in one spot next to the pickguard. Small cut at right side of tailpiece. Hairline crack on back of peghead treble side. 1/2 inch long crack on bottom back treble side. Finish on back of neck is worn through in spots. Original hardshell case has wear and one significant tear on back. (leather handle is worn through on one end).
