The Golden Age of the American Circus!

Sounds of The Circus

Circus Wagon

The South Shore Circus Concert Band

is one of the few bands in the country dedicated to preserving authentic music from the golden age of the American Circus. They have performed numerous times with the Big Apple Circus both in New York City at the world famous Lincoln Center and Boston. They have also played for Sells and Gray Circus, Clyde Beatty, Ed Migleys Shrine, Hanneford and Carson and Barnes Circus.

The South Shore Circus Concert Band was selected to perform in person and provide live background music for the nationally televised GREAT CIRCUS PARADE from Milwaukee.

--Alan Slifka, chairman of the board of the Big Apple Circus , on a recent trip to Russia hand presented a copy of the SOUTH SHORE CIRCUS CONCERT BAND's recording "SOUNDS OF THE CIRCUS" to the Minister of Culture in Moscow as a prime example of music from the Golden Age of the American Circus.

The recordings were also presented in person to the School of the Circus in Kiev and Leningrad where they are being studied by Russian students of the circus.

Recordings of this band are available to the public on cassette and compact disc. A series of fifty volumes entitled "SOUNDS OF THE CIRCUS"

Here is pure unadulterated music from the circus ring performed by twenty-five enthusiastic musicians. Minor inaccuracies have purposely not been corrected or edited from the original recording to give you all the spontaneity of a live performance.

We dedicate this series to all the great circus bandmaster-composers who have provided an ageless bit of musical happiness for coming generations to enjoy. Sit back and enjoy the happy musical sounds of the golden age of the American circus.
